
OLEAN — Organizers are happy to see Allegheny River Running Fest in its third year.
Held at War Veterans Park on Saturday and sponsored by the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce, the running fest had 59 participants from three departments.
Erica Dreher, Chamber of Commerce Member Services Manager, said: “Joelle, her husband, and her two sons supported the event by running the 5K route and winning her top finisher award in each age category.”
Cheryl Hannon of Anchorage, Alaska, was in town to celebrate her father-in-law’s 100th birthday. Olean’s Jen Tyra entered as the fastest female finisher with a time of 25:11. The fastest man to finish was Orchard Park’s Ryan Lohr, who crossed his line to the finish in a time of 17:25.
19 entrants crossed the finish line in the 10K race. The fastest woman was Leslie Buckley of Wellsville, who finished in 52:46. The fastest man went to his Allegany David Kendzior, who finished the 6.2-mile race with a time of 45:12.
There were 25 participants in the half marathon, the third division of the running fest. The fastest woman to finish with a time of 1:44:55 was Castle Angela in Olean.
“We are really excited to have our local half marathon here in Olean,” said Castle. “I had a great first year of 2020 and was thrilled to be the first woman to complete the race. I wanted to.”
She volunteered at last year’s event and said it was very rewarding to have the opportunity to help other runners.
“I was thrilled to be back racing this year,” Castle said. “It’s great to be 1st in the women’s division again. I hope this event will continue to grow. I’m looking forward to next year.”
The fastest male finisher was Jim Park of Buffalo with a time of 1:33:56.
The event also rewards the last person to complete a half marathon. This is no joke, but to celebrate the determination and grit of the last person to finish through the timing system. This person is the last Lys Award winner going to Angelique Prata in Toronto.
This year’s ARRF activity included Lisa Ralston from Me Life Love, who provided stretching, sound therapy, and yoga sessions. Dana Voser, a licensed massage therapist, was also on hand to provide both pre-race and post-race massage sessions.
Genesis House provided activities for children and GOACC provided its second annual Kids Dash. Post-race refreshments were sponsored by Four Mile Brewing Co.
“Plans to include more vendors at the parks for things like overall wellness, post-race activities and music have been part of the ARRF since day one,” Dreher said. It’s work.”
Events committee member Jessica Weinman helped volunteers guide runners along the course this year and chatted with attendees at the afterparty. , when the committee meets to begin planning for the 2023 event, “will consider a route, possibly starting at Gargoyle Park and utilizing the entire Allegheny River Trail for runners to navigate.”
“This could also be a flat, fast run for someone aiming for a personal record,” says Weinman, a competitive runner himself.
Dreyer said the committee will conclude in late October and begin working on some of the early duties for the 2023 event.Securing race calendar dates, timing companies and locations. A valid date is September 9th.
Race results are uploaded and loaded on the website itsyourrace.com. Search for Allegheny River Running Fest. Participants are encouraged to view results and print race certificates and photos of their runs as they approach and pass the finish line.
