Wehrung Appointed Vice President of Business School at Katstown University

Kutztown University has appointed Dr. Jeffrey Wehrung as Associate Dean of the School of Business. Wehrung came to KU after he spent 10 years at Black Hills State University and on August 3rd he enrolled at KU.

Wehrung has been with Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota since 2012. In his most recent role as Special Assistant to the Chancellor, Wehrung was responsible for coordinating his program of academics at the new location at Ellsworth Air Force Base. He supported the Hospitality and Business Center and oversaw the curriculum development of the Healthcare Management Program.

“I’ve traveled all over the country, but Pennsylvania has always been my home, wherever I’ve lived.” Wehrung said. “Two of my great-grandmothers attended Katstown when it was a teacher’s college. Colleges have always played an important role in the area.

“This is an especially exciting time for KU’s College of Business.” Wehrung continued. “Putting students first can sometimes require overturning old industry norms. The new stackable MBA model is designed to address the workforce’s needs in data analysis, leadership and strategic decision-making. This is the bold innovation the region needs and sets KU apart as a leader in the region.”

Dr. Wehrung served as Chair of the Black Hills School of Business from 2018-2021, overseeing all full-time and part-time business faculties serving students in two locations. Wehrung’s primary responsibilities include leading strategic plans, setting annual goals, participating in fundraising, recruiting and training new faculty, representing the university to the business community, and accrediting the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). includes instruction.

Wehrung’s efforts as Chair have resulted in a 15% increase in hourly production, significant alumni support for entrepreneurship programs, the formation of regional and international partnerships, and the construction of a new Finance Institute.

During his time at Black Hills, Wehrung also served as Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship, Chancellor’s Fellow, and Director of the Center for Business, Entrepreneurship and Tourism (CBET). Prior to joining the administration, Wehrung was heavily involved in shared governance, serving five years as a Senator as Faculty Representative, Secretary and Senate Vice-President.

Prior to his university career, Wehrung was a quality assurance manager for multiple precast concrete and concrete pipe manufacturing facilities and a sales engineer in the wastewater treatment industry. He is a board member and advisor to various companies in the precast concrete and construction supply industry, advising on leadership development and shaping employee retention programs.

Wehrung holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in business administration. He holds a PhD in Organizational Behavior from the University of Texas at Austin. Wehrung holds her MBA in Human Resources Management from Brigham Young University and a BA in Engineering and Technology Management from Brown University.
