Trevor Barry has had quite the sophomore season with the Iroquois in 2021.
He looks poised to add to that football resume in a big way this year as well.
The 6-1, 215-pound running back unofficially grabbed 212 yards on 20 carries and ran for 40 and 65 yards for two touchdowns in a 31-14 non-league win over the Chiefs. led to Lawson Field Friday night.
‘He’s a special player’ Iroquois head coach Robert Pizonka said. “He’s what you’re looking for. Obviously, he works in the weight room. He’s a smart football player and he’s playing physical. I am lucky to be there.”
The Chiefs, who beat the Trojans 22-21 in last year’s opener, had freshman quarterback Justus Kratez (brother of now-all-state quarterback graduating Trey Kratez) and senior tight end Nate Mc Goldrick also showed a strong performance.

The Trojan knows all about McGoldrick.
After catching three TD passes against the Trojans a year ago, McGoldrick caught two more passes from 8 and 26 yards last night to give the Iroquois an impressive win on the road. helped kick off the season.
Southwestern trailed 17-0 early in the second quarter, but scored a touchdown just before halftime when quarterback Jameson Walsh connected with tight end Cameron Lemuk on an 11-yard strike. and made the game interesting.
After halftime, the Trojans forced a fumble on the Iroquois’ second offensive play. Seven plays later, Walsh found Lemuk for another TD pass, this time from 4 yards. This drive was highlighted by an outstanding catch by Chris Miller. This is his second of his two nifty grabs that night. Neves Hoose scored his two successful points after he started his second of the try and the Trojans trailed him 17-14 and the third quarter ended with his 7:27.
The results remained in doubt until later in the period, when Barry, who rushed for over 1,300 yards last season and scored 25 total touchdowns, was unleashed for a 65-yard TD run.
“He’s a great athlete” Southwestern University coach Jake Burkholder said of Barry, who is an accomplished wrestler and lacrosse player. “He’s their man. … He won’t quit. The first[defensive]man is not going to beat him.”
The Chiefs closed out the scoring with a 26-yard pitch and catch from Kreitz to McGoldrick. Josiah Arcadipane’s third try went well as he pushed the Iroquois lead to 31-14 with less than two minutes left on his side.
The visitor exited the game as if it had started.
A bad snap on Southwestern’s first offensive play went through over Walsh’s head into the end zone and into safety. After the free kick, the Chiefs needed 10 plays to drive 56 yards and was capped by Kreitz’s 8-yard touchdown pass to McGoldrick.
“We put ourselves in the hole and you do the catch-up.” Burkholder said. “Sure, things like that change how you approach things. It’s part of the game. You have to avoid these little mistakes to get off to a good start.”
Notes: Matt Pannes led Southwestern with 86 rushing yards on 18 carries. …On defense, Pannes had his team-high 13 tackles, Lemuk his seven, and Griff he Bogdanowitz and Mitch Pike each with six. … the Trojan resumes its activity next Friday, to the delight of DePuy. The Iroquois migrate to the Lake Shores.
