A burial service for Robert E. Hodgson in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, will be held on Saturday, August 13 at 1:00 p.m. at the Hodgson family lot in Woodlawn Cemetery in Wellesley. Friends and family are welcome to join us. Her devoted husband and father, Robert, passed away on January 31, 2022 at her community hospice-McGrawcare her center in Jacksonville. he was 73 years old.

Known as Bob to his friends and family, he was born on July 27, 1948, at Newton Wellesley Hospital in Massachusetts, where he spent his childhood. He was one of his six children born to Roger B. Hodgson of Wellesley and Johannsdottir, ex-Svana of Iceland. He attended Wellesley Public Schools and graduated from Wellesley High School in June 1966.

Bob briefly attended Ohio Wesleyan University, but dropped out at the end of his freshman year to join the United States Air Force in September 1967. There he trained as a medical materials specialist. Later, as an Air Force Petty Officer, he was stationed at Weerath Air Force Base in Libya and Royal Air Force Base Bentwaters in England. In July 1971, he began his two-year term in the United States Air Force Reserve.

Bob has three degrees from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. With GI Bill he returned to college, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology in 1974 and a Master’s degree in Business Administration soon after, graduating in 1977. After working in budgeting and finance at a medical institution near Boston, he returned to Amherst to complete his master’s degree in accounting in 1984.

When he returned to Amherst for his second master’s degree, he met his wife of 37 years, Marshall Ruth Murphy. After two weeks of dizzying courtship, the couple got engaged and married in September 1984 in Wayland, Massachusetts. Marsha’s cousin Janet Cooper, a pastor at Brown University, presided over her Reverend Nelson.

After graduating with a second master’s degree, Bob worked as a chief accountant at Amherst College. The couple later moved to Manchester, New Hampshire, where they served as managers of cost accounting and budgeting for Elliott Hospital. Throughout his career, Bob also served as his Assistant Director of Financial Services, Cost Reporting, and Administration for the University of North Carolina Hospital System at Chapel Hill. Eventually, the couple moved to Jacksonville to work at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Riverside and Baptist/St. Vincent’s Health System in the South Bank when the two hospital systems merged. After the two healthcare systems separated, he worked as a Senior Financial Consultant at Ascension St. He Vincent Healthcare System in Jacksonville, and as a Senior Financial Consultant at Ascension’s headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri. He worked for several years in Care Management at One He Calls in Jacksonville’s Southbank.

Over the years, Bob balanced his healthcare career with part-time military service in the Army Reserve. He has served in the Army National Guard in Florida, and has held many positions, including duties as Deputy Inspector General and Senior NCOES with the 26th Infantry Division in Massachusetts. Instructor at Fort Bragg Military Academy, North Carolina. He finished his career as a Sergeant Major (E8) in the 120th Personnel Service Company of St. Augustine.

After retirement, Bob maintained a lifelong interest in studying the night sky by attending two regional astronomy clubs: the Ancient City Astronomy Club in St. Augustine and the Northeast Florida Astronomical Society in Jacksonville. rice field.

Bob was a devoted father to two beloved daughters, Celia Hope Hodgson and Hillary Ann Hodgson. He is survived by his wife Marcia and children, as well as his two faithful dogs, Lucy and Ferguson, and his four siblings. Margaret “Peggy” Enders (Robert) of Lexington, Massachusetts. Thomas Hodgson of Auburn, New York and Lily Hodgson of Yarmouth, Massachusetts. and seven nieces and nephews: James Hodgson (Nada Hussain) of Belmont, Massachusetts. Sarah Enders Golden (Robert) of Davis, California. Caitlin Enders Dalton (Clayton) of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Svana Lara Hauksdottir of Iceland, Katrin Hauksdottir (Viktor Bjarkason) of Iceland. He is Haukur Johann Hauksson (Kim) of Lagrange, Illinois, and Helga Hauksdottir (Ben Mathew) of Waldwick, New Jersey. He is further survived by many grandpas, grandpas and cousins ​​in the United States and Iceland. Bob was deceased by his parents and his sister Ingun H. Starlaugsdottir.

A memorial service for Bob’s life was held on February 12 at Trinity Episcopal Parish in St. Augustine, Florida. His burial will take place on the Hodgson family plot in Woodlawn Cemetery in Wellesley, Massachusetts on August 13.
