Pittsburgh – The Pittsburgh Steelers’ offensive line had a decidedly poor performance in their second game of the preseason against the Jacksonville Jaguars. As the team returned to his UPMC Looney Sports Complex to start the week, some members of the group in question said their struggles resulted in simple executions.
Mason Cole, a five-year veteran, said the Steelers line wasn’t unplanned and was simply beaten by the Jaguars’ talented pass rusher.
“You could use that as an excuse, but it’s pass protection,” Cole said. “They didn’t throw us a lot of stunts. They beat us in pass protection. Admittedly, it might have helped if I had planned the game more.
James Daniels dismissed the impact of the new offense and positional changes. Even though I was doing my job, there always seemed to be at least one leak somewhere up front. Offensively he needs all 11 players to work in sync in football, but the Steelers didn’t have that against the Jaggs.
“There were times when four people were doing great things and one person wasn’t doing great things,” Daniels said. “…so we need to focus on that and make sure everyone is doing the right thing individually, and then making sure we are doing the right thing as a team.
Kevin Dotson echoed Cole’s sentiments, arguing that the skills he used in training camp practices needed to translate well into the game.
“You have to put more of what you’re doing in practice into the game,” Dotson said. I had to start it.”
Kendrick Green, who is competing with Dotson for the starting spot at left guard, said he needs to look more offensive if he wants to get a start on Day 1 against the Bengals.
“You have to play the ball, play harder, play a little more aggressive,” Green said.
Green said head coach Mike Tomlin called him during a team meeting to show bad rep on film in front of his teammates.
“Coach T got us, specifically me, on the board right before the team meeting,” Green said. “It never feels good.”

Cole was ready to face the noise, but believes his unit has what it takes to recover from its recent lackluster outing, both in terms of talent and knowledge. added.
“I think we have the right people in our room and offense,” he said. “I had to pull it all together. Not only do I have to play not to lose, I have to play to win the rep.”
