Michael was born on December 8, 1959 in Frankfurt, Germany to Donald Charles Rydell and Beverly Breuy Rydell. He was baptized as a child in Germany. Michael has lived in Frankfurt, Buenos Aires, and Mexico City and graduated from high school in Bethesda, Maryland. Michael holds a Fine Arts degree from East Carolina University. He was Sigma Phi He was Vice President and Reverend of the Epsilon Fraternity. He also earned his MBA from Georgia State University.

Michael has spent most of his career as a graphic designer and has won many national and regional awards for his design work. In 2004 he was named Master of the United States Mint He designed the 2006 South Dakota District. He has held design management positions at John H. Harland, Oglivy & Mather, Genuine Parts Company and SP Richards Company. In 2005, he founded the creative design company STEEM. He is the owner and operator of the successful Dimebox Distillery in downtown Giddings, Sixth Street where he has produced many award-winning spirits, including bourbon. He devotes his time to many organizations, including Gidding’s Breakfast Lions Club, and in Georgia, Cobb is a former board member of the Cobb His Landmarks and Marietta Cobb Museum (a Guitars not Guns organization), and a member of the Marietta Chalktoberfest. was also the founder.

Michael enjoyed a lot in his free time. He is an avid traveler and has visited 90 countries. Woodworking, carpentry, fishing, scuba and all water sports including his diving were his passions. He was a licensed single-engine pilot. He was an award-winning accomplished artist in multiple mediums, including oil painter, master mixologist, avid movie buff, music lover, and proud sponsor of Texas Music Radio. Most of all, he loved spending time with his beloved fiancé Stacey, friends around the world, and her family.

Michael passed away peacefully at his home in Giddings on Thursday, August 4, 2022.

He was predeceased by his father, Ambassador Donald Charles Rydell. Michael was bequeathed to his mother, Beverly Broy Rydell, Florida. His fiancée, Stacey Young of Marietta, Georgia, and her three children, Alexandra, Ian, and Miles Thompson. Brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Karin Rydell from Dimebox, Texas. Sister Katherine Norton Rydell from Florida. Four nieces and nephews: David Michael Harris of Florida, Katherine Ellis Rydell of New York, Jennifer Ann Rydell of New York and James and Sadie Rydell of Connecticut.

A memorial will be made at the Gidding’s Breakfast Lions Club or at the Marietta Cobb Art Museum in Georgia.
