About Dr. Gerberding
Dr. Gerberding served as CDC Director from 2002-2009. She led the agency through her more than 40 emergency responses to public health crises, including her SARS in 2003. She is her CEO of the National Institutes of Health Foundation.

She completed an internship and residency in internal medicine, a fellowship in clinical pharmacology and infectious diseases at the University of California, San Francisco, and is certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases. Dr. Gerberding also holds a master’s degree in public health from the University of California, Berkeley.
About Dr. Rothblatt
Dr. Rothblatt is Chairman and CEO of United Therapeutics Corp. This company she started to save her youngest son’s life from a rare disease. She previously created SiriusXM Radio Inc. and other satellite communication systems. She is also responsible for several innovations in aviation and architecture, including designing and flying a Guinness World Records electric helicopter and creating the world’s largest carbon-free building.

Dr. Rothblatt led an effort to create the first genetically modified pig hearts and kidneys to be transplanted into humans, called xenografts.
Dr. Rothblatt holds a PhD in Medical Ethics from the Royal London College of Medicine and Dentistry. Prior to that, he earned his law degree and his MBA degree from UCLA, and most recently he was also awarded the UCLA Medal, the highest honor. She is the inventor of several patents and the author of several books. Her latest book is about artificial cognition and cyber consciousness.
