Applications for the Asian Development Bank-Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) 2023 are now open. Participation in education, residency, and leadership development programs at Hawaii at Manoa (UHM) and East West Center (EWC).

Established in April 1988 with funding from the Government of Japan, the ADB-JSP Scholarship aims to strengthen human resource capacity in developing member countries of the Asian Development Bank. It provides opportunities for outstanding citizens of ADB’s developing member countries to undertake graduate studies in economics, business, science and technology, and other development-related fields at participating academic institutions in the Asia-Pacific region. purpose. After completing their studies, scholars are expected to return to their home country to apply and share their new knowledge and skills to promote their socio-economic development.


The ADB-JSP Scholarship provides the following support for master’s study at the University of Hawaii at Manoa:

  • Full tuition and fees,
  • Travel to and from the applicant’s home country to Honolulu,
  • East-West Center residential facility housing,
  • monthly scholarship,
  • textbook funds,
  • Health insurance,
  • U.S. Visa Sponsor (J-1 Exchange Visitor).


Applicants must:

  • Be a citizen and current resident of an Asian Development Bank developing member country and be under the age of 35 at the time of application.
  • Hold a 4-year Bachelor’s degree or equivalent to a 4-year Bachelor’s degree at the time of application. (Equivalence is a 3-year bachelor’s degree and her 1-year master’s degree, or a 2-year bachelor’s degree and her 2-year master’s degree, which are subject to review.)
  • Have at least two years of full-time professional experience after completing a university degree at the time of application.
  • Take one of the English proficiency tests. His minimum acceptable TOEFL score on paper is 550. 213 for computer-based TOEFL. 79-80 for internet-based TOEFL iBT. Or 6.5 for IELTS. Results must be obtained from testing within the last two years.

In addition to submitting the ADB-JSP scholarship application to the East-West Center, a separate application (including all required supporting documentation) must be submitted to the University of Hawaii at Manoa for admission to the master’s degree program. I have.
