All-black women's Mississippi football official makes history

JACKSON, Mississippi (AP) – Mueller will face Cleveland Central at South Jackson Field when he opens the high school football season in Mississippi on Friday.

And, as Clarion Leisure reported, it will be the first all-black female crew nationally.

“With all the information we have been able to gather from the National Federation of High School Associations, we feel this is the first time that a high school football game will have an all-female Black umpire,” said MHSAA Assistant Director.
