Business school can be challenging, and even with a GMAT, it’s important to put it into action when starting a demanding course. To that end, GMAC, creators of the GMAT, have partnered with Kaplan to create a series of micro-courses called Business Fundamentals for those with little business experience or who need a little refresher.

Now, you can prepare for business school by talking to alumni and career services, reading about programs to identify specializations, earning your GMAT, and reading business books.

To further prepare you for the rigors of business school, GMAC’s Business Fundamentals course is designed to take some of the pressure off your shoulders.

Business Fundamentals consists of three courses – Accounting, Finance and Statistics – that give you an edge whether you are in the pre-application stage or already enrolled. Completing the course can give the school the confidence that you will master the core concepts of business. Even if you hold a place, the course will help prepare you for a demanding program.

Business Fundamentals courses are written and reviewed by business school faculty. We currently have faculty from Wharton, George Mason, Georgetown, Northeastern, UT-Austin, SMU, and the University of Louisville. Each subject includes lectures, quizzes, practice tests and a final exam.

1. Business Fundamentals: Statistics

Statistics are essential for business school candidates to learn how to understand data for decision making. In this course, students will learn the basics of descriptive and inferential statistics from the course and how they are used to inform business strategy. There are also lessons on working with and understanding data using Excel. This is an important skill set for a business career.

Topics throughout the course are descriptive statistics, randomization, sampling and experimentation, and probability theory. In these sections you will learn the basics of data, how to describe and display data. How to employ appropriate sampling techniques. Finally, we discuss how to use statistical tools to evaluate and critique business case studies.

2. Business Fundamentals: Accounting

Accounting courses teach students to become fluent in the language of business. Students learn a framework for describing and evaluating a company by analyzing financial statements, learn to distinguish between assets, liabilities, and equity, and build a foundational knowledge of accounting theories, processes, and practices .

This course enables students to identify the purpose of the four financial statements, understand how decisions are made from them, prepare financial statements, and identify the content and structure of financial statements.

3. Business Fundamentals: Finance

Students are introduced to the world of corporate finance through a combination of advanced quizzes, written materials, media, and application-based exercises.

From learning the time value of money and measuring performance, to understanding liabilities and equity, and how managers value their businesses, the Finance course provides an overview of managerial finance in the corporate world. increase.

The three courses run at a flexible, asynchronous pace, with bite-sized content accessible 24 hours a day on desktop and mobile, and a variety of teaching methods including videos, short quizzes, exercises, and answer explanations. This means you can study the content on your own time and in your own way.

Upon completion of the three courses, students will identify how managers measure performance, list basic types of debt and equity, and perform basic calculations to display their values. , you will be able to perform basic cash flow assessments in your spreadsheet.
